This year’s User Forum was bigger and better than ever. 116 participants – a new record for VisoTech events – met in Vienna from all over Europe for a look into the future.
The Wiener Urania, Austria’s first public observatory, provided an inspirational setting to see the latest updates and future plans for the Periotheus Suite, to learn about new trends in the digitalisation of the energy industry, and to connect with industry colleagues.
VisoTech Managing Director Jürgen Mayerhofer updated us on the company’s development over the past year and described the vision of a complete Short-Term Trading System. The focus then sharpened on artificial intelligence, with an introduction to the technology by Dr. Michael Platzer, Managing Director of Mostly AI. Wolfgang Eichberger followed with a look into VisoTech’s plans for AI.
“Great event, great people.”

But how do you stay human in an increasingly digital world? After lunch, futurist Peter Siljerud got everyone thinking about technological change and the impact it is having on people. Afterwards, Hubert Eigner, System & Application Manager at VERBUND, shared his experiences using the Periotheus Suite at Austria’s leading power company.
Our department heads then provided a look behind the scenes at VisoTech, including showing the participants what it means to be a VisoMind. The day programme ended with an exciting look from Co-Founders Johannes Püller and Wolfgang Eichberger at the new features of the Periotheus Suite and as well as plans for the future.
“Best User Forum ever!”

The feedback from participants was extremely positive. They told us that they most appreciated the openness and informality, the uncomplicated discussion, interesting talks on new topics and the balance of information and networking.
Afterwards, everyone enjoyed a fun and relaxing get together at the ocean’sky cafe on top of the Haus des Meeres – including an up-close and personal visit with the many inhabitants of this unique aquarium.
On the next day 21 participants came to our office for our second Energy Algo-Coding Workshop. They all learned a lot in just one day – even the first-time Python users went from “hello world” to their first trades in just two hours.
We never stop growing!
The demand for automated energy trading solutions keeps growing, and we’re growing with it. This month we’re happy to welcome Stefan Politakis to our operations team; he will help keep our Linux systems and those of our customers running smoothly. Software Engineer Corentin Charles joins our development team to support the continued growth of the autoTRADER.
Meanwhile we are looking for a web developer to work on a web client for automated trading and other functions.
Meet with us and learn
In November in London, Jürgen Mayerhofer gave a talk at ETex – Energy Trading Excellence on the typical journey of an energy trader into algorithmic trading. Together with Rob Carver, author of “Systematic Trading”, he then led a lively group discussion on the future of energy trading and the impact of digitalisation.
On December 7, at the EUROFORUM Intraday Trading – Power conference in Düsseldorf, Johannes Püller will give a presentation on “Artificial intelligence for intraday trading: power plant optimisation on speed”. This annual event provides a valuable look into current topics in energy trading.
Thanks to everyone involved in the User Forum 2018: the speakers who shared their knowledge of interesting topics; the customers and potential customers who generously shared their time, attention and experiences; the partners who enable us to deliver the solutions our customers need; and last but not least to all of the VisoTech colleagues who directly or indirectly supported the successful organisation of this outstanding event.
And one final thanks to Puppi, the “queen of the aquarium”, for graciously sharing your home with us for an evening.
