Vienna, January 22, 2019 – EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG, one of the largest energy suppliers in Germany and Europe, has selected VisoTech’s autoTRADER algo-trading solution. The company uses the solution for automated marketing of power, the marketing of flexibilities from renewable energy and as a platform to develop trading strategies. With VisoTech, according to a recent study from The Advisory House, EnBW is relying on the leading European provider in the field of algo-trading.
With more than 21,000 employees, EnBW supplies roughly 5.5 million customers with electricity, gas and water. The company is committed to the expansion of renewable energy, in particular wind power. This increases the importance of short-term energy trading; efficient and flexible marketing requires automation of energy trading. The persons responsible at EnBW evaluated the pros and cons of in-house development compared to purchasing a standard system and chose VisoTech.
The experts at VisoTech took care of the complete interface with the exchange as well as the required conformance tests.
Stefan Walter, responsible for the implementation of algorithm-supported trading at EnBW, explained the advantages of the VisoTech solution: “The autoTRADER is highly available and easy to integrate into our existing systems. The experts at VisoTech took care of the complete interface with the exchange as well as the required conformance tests. In addition, we have to do almost no maintenance. Particularly noteworthy is that VisoTech offers a live testing environment, which allowed us to put the system through its paces in live operation. Last but not least, the ability to easily integrate our own algorithms significantly influenced our decision to implement the autoTRADER.”
Customers like EnBW profit from the industry experience and the service mindset that are built into our solution and can quickly convert the advantages into hard cash.
Jürgen Mayerhofer, Managing Director of VisoTech, elaborated: “Anyone who wants to master short-term trading without automation and the associated software simply doesn’t stand a chance. The high speed combined with hundreds of traded products and the volatility of renewables are simply too much to manage manually. Proprietary development might at first seem like a reasonable idea, but the effort of programming as well as subsequent maintenance and software updates are often greatly underestimated. We have invested over ten person-years in the autoTRADER software and infrastructure and developed it in close cooperation with customers and partners. Customers like EnBW profit from the industry experience and the service mindset that are built into our solution and can quickly convert the advantages into hard cash.”
The autoTRADER, part of VisoTech’s Periotheus Platform, is a high-performance trading system for fully automated intraday power trading on European exchanges. It takes into account all important factors (production, weather, consumption, physical restrictions such as power plant ramp-ups, limits etc.). The autoTRADER has been tried and tested in practice and supports both manual trading and fully autonomous operation. This enables energy companies such as EnBW to react quickly to fluctuations in electricity production or demand. Power plant parks or energy storage facilities can be optimally marketed on power exchanges such as EPEX SPOT or Nord Pool, or open customer positions can be closed as efficiently as possible according to requirements.
