After many years using VisoTech‘s gas scheduling solution, Salzburg AG needed to improve their business processes for power. Both scheduling and intraday trading were to be automated. But these processes need to work well together. How did Salzburg AG resolve these challenges?
The challenge: Trading automation with integrated scheduling
In 2015, Salzburg AG was in need of a new scheduling solution for power. Their solution at the time was no longer optimal; it was not truly automatable. Furthermore, the vendor no longer wanted to continue developing this solution. Salzburg AG had already been using a VisoTech solution for gas scheduling, and the positive experience with the functions of the Periotheus Platform contributed to the decision to again select a VisoTech solution.
A few years later, in 2017, Salzburg AG decided to implement algorithmic trading. The goal was to streamline their business processes in order to react faster to changes on the increasingly digitalised intraday power market. Intensive market research lead to a clear conclusion – the short lead times between gate closure and delivery and the resulting reduction in time available for trading-related business processes required a high-performance interface between intraday trading and scheduling. Or even better: no interface at all!
Salzburg AG has long been a forward-looking customer. The introduction of the Periotheus autoTRADER has allowed them to trade more actively on the intraday market and to make the most of their power plants. Full integration with scheduling and balancing has helped make them more efficient and better able to stay ahead in a market that keeps moving faster and faster.
A system already in operation at Salzburg AG offered exactly the solution they wanted: VisoTech’s Periotheus Platform.
